Tunisia-UGTT surprised by silence of authorities in the face of acts of pillage and vandalism

The Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT) issued a press release on Monday, January 18, 2021, regarding recent acts of pillage and vandalism targeting private and public properties.
The UGTT views peaceful demonstrations to be a legitimate earned right and one of the most significant achievements of the revolution, consecrated in the constitution of January 27, 2014. In this sense, the union calls on young demonstrators to prevent the nightly demonstrations so that there are no overruns and acts of pillage or vandalism, requesting on the authorities to respond in order to dispel the growing rumours.
. “We understand the wrath of Tunisian youth, consumed by unemployment, marginalization, poverty, discrimination, social inequalities, frustration and despair… We have already warned against a social explosion in the face of the inability of governments to gain reliable solutions, the involvement of security and military institutions is far from being the solution, it will only rekindle anger, ”the statement said.
