The Republican Popular Union (UPR) denounced Prime Minister-designate Habib Jemli decision to establish a government of independent technocrats. The UPR regarded the announcement to be a usurpation of the popular will. The UPR justified its stand by the fact that the governance of the country will be consigned to personages not chosen by the people.
They further emphasised repeatedly that this approach only empties democracy of its worth. The party indicated that it will resist Jemli’s proposal and will attempt to convince other parliamentary groups to do the same.
