Tunisia-UTAP denounces silence of authorities in face of blue tongue disease

Bluetongue, better known under the name of bluetongue disease, has had direct and indirect repercussions on farmers and their herds, causing significant losses.

In this context, the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP ) made many demands after regarding a laxity on the part of the supervisory authorities who did not intervene. The organization has, further, made them bear responsibility for the current situation in the livestock sector.

UTAP  called on the government presidency and the House of People’s Representatives to back its initiative on the creation of an animal health fund and to present it with the needed funding that would allow to shield and develop animal resources, To protect them from all diseases and plagues, provide vaccines and compensate the affected farmers to allow production to continue.

The organization also wants to speed up the establishment of an agricultural framework so as to contribute to the continuous training of breeders and to provide them with technical information.
