The president of the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP), Abdelmajid Ezzar expressed today that the existence of this union is a blessing for Tunisia. “We are not going to let our people die of hunger … it is our duty to protect and preserve our food sovereignty but in return, the State must grow the profit margin for the benefit of farmers to secure the sustainability of the sector”, he said.
Ezzar likewise called on the state to fix the profit margin to prevent middlemen from exposing prices in the markets to extremely high prices. He also revealed that the recent boost in grain prices did not live up to their expectations.
