Speaking to Tunisie Numérique correspondent, Minister of religious affairs Mr Ahmed Adhoum affirmed that Friday prayers will remain halted until the national committee rules otherwise, in light of the evolving epidemiological situation.
The ministry has control over most, if not all, mosques, he stated, adding that his department will not hesitate to dismiss religious executives who carry hate speech and extremists.
He also requested all practitioners and even non-practitioners to discuss the subject of religion as part of an “academic day”, during which true objective debates can take place.
The minister said religious discourse goes hand in hand with the constitution, and the state necessitates both.
