President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed, welcomed, this Wednesday, the ministers of education and higher education, as well as the CEO of National Television and the Director General of National Radio.
The meeting focused on the significance of the consultation launched to initiate a reform of the education system, and on the important role of the media in getting citizens interested in this action. He specified that the future of Tunisia lies in the reform of its education system.
He recollected the role of public schools in Tunisia, and the fact that they trained the builders of this country during the 1960s.
He criticized the so-called reforms that took place, which dealt blows to public education and killed free thought.
Saïed, on occasion, made a detour to address school transport and called on the Minister of Education to do everything in partnership with his transport colleague to secure transport for students, particularly in rural areas.
He then addressed the subject of competitions within the Ministry of Education, ensuring that the main focus of these competitions is equality of opportunity, and the results must be based on transparent scientific criteria.
