Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, Head of the Department of Organic Agriculture at the Regional Agriculture Delegation of Beja Radhia Dridi declared the export of organic pomegranates to the European Union for the first time. Evoking that the Testour pomegranates had acquired the IP “Indication of Origin” or AOC label thanks to the features they have, Mrs Dridi added that the pomegranates had been approved last year as an organic product.
According to the same source, quantities of fresh pomegranates were shipped to the golf countries while other quantities were exported to the European Union where they were processed into juice.
Noting that Tunisian products are well-marketed thanks to their high quality, Dridi told Tunisie Numérique that a unit whose purpose is to extract juice from pomegranates will soon be set up. According to Dridi, this unit will help pomegranate export operations abroad due to the high cost of producing fresh pomegranates.
