Tunisia-[Video]:Mechichi describes economic situation as very difficult

During a meeting with socio-economic actors in Beit El Hikma prime minister Hichem Mechchi i said that the economic situation in the country is very difficult.

Hence, he called for the founding of a political environment favourable to economic recovery.

Mechichi likewise indicated that he has triggered a series of meetings called “the Beit El Hikma meetings” with socio-economic collaborators, businessmen and investors to examine their suggestions concerning the economic reform program that will subsequently be delivered to international partners.

“We have launched a new treatment of the economic approach concentrating on reconciliation with investment, capitalization and the current legal framework,” he stated.

Mechichi condemned the negative rhetoric propagated among investors and businessmen, remarking that many sanctions hamper economic development. According to him, like the revision of the foreign exchange code, bills will be urgently examined at the parliament to encourage investment.

Also, other licenses and authorizations linking to the organization of economic activities will be removed shortly.

“We must encourage investors, rebuild their confidence in the legal system and secure their compliance with the system in question. This is, in fact, a win-win logic, “he stated.

Mechichi also said he is seeking to establish a positive dynamic to revive the economy calling, in the same context, all political actors to partake in this initiative to avoid bankruptcy.
