In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, financial expert Bassem Ennaifer disclosed that the new project on bounced checks is marked by a new vision.
According to him, it seeks to assign responsibility to all parties implicated in the process of issuing checks, especially to the issuer who must ensure that there are sufficient funds in their bank account to cover the check that it emits.
Our interlocutor also clarified that the new bill did not abolish prison sentences but rather lowered them to two years in addition to financial fines, with the possibility of alternative sanctions in initial cases.
He Added to this the implementation of new technology which makes it possible to check the account balance of the person in question and whether they can honour the check or not.
Ennaifer also cited that the law included a penalty clause stipulating a fine of 40% of the value of the check.
