Tunisia – Who is Anne Guéguen new French ambassador to Tunisia?

Anne Guéguen, born on July 12, 1971, is the new French Ambassador in Tunis. Before her current position, she acted as the Director of North Africa and the Middle East within the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs from 2021 to 2023. Before that, she held the position of Deputy Secretary General from 2020 to 2021.

 Guéguen was also Minister-Counsellor at the French Embassy in Tunis during her first visit to the country from 2013 to 2016. Her international assignments include notable time in New York, where she served as First Secretary at the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations (2000-2004). Later, she operated as a political advisor, deputy director for the Middle East within the Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat (2006-2013), political coordinator (2016-2017), and finally, Representative Deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations (2017-2020).

Anne Guéguen, a mother of three, started her diplomatic career in 1994, joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her expertise in UN issues and the Arab world is reflected in her various roles, including serving as an editor within the North Africa Middle East Directorate (1994-1997), second secretary at the French Embassy in Cairo (1997-2000), and Deputy Director of North Africa (2004-2005).

A graduate of the IEP in Paris with a degree in Arabic, Anne Guéguen has been recognized for her contributions and is a knight of the National Order of Merit.
