Tunisia – Why does the Ministry of Health want to hide the actual figures of COVID-19 cases?

This is the account, or the misfortune, of a friend with the health services. This friend operating in a company and having displayed signs indicative of COVID-19 was commanded by his management to be tested in order to verify or deny his infection with the virus, in order to take the needed steps to preserve, if necessary, his teammates.

This friend went to a public testing centre to verify his state. But he was shocked when he was informed that, since he had the symptoms, he could count himself positive for the virus, They even prescribed him the medicine to take, and instructed him to stick to the rules, Quite easily! Knowing that this method is the last formal strategy of the ministry of health, probably in order to preserve the screening tests.

The friend in question attempted to explain to them that he wanted a piece of paper, a legal document, to give to his employer… Nothing to do, they had already moved on to the next one.

Moral of the story: The man will never be capable to prove to his employer that he is sick, and even if he manages to withdraw to confinement for a week, he will surely not be able to prove to his employer, that he has recovered and that he can return to work.

However, the other moral of the story, and which is much more severe, since it no longer affects only the friend we were speaking about, but the whole community, is that in this way, we are in the front of an individual heavily suspected of being positive for the virus and even considered to be a covid plus. And who is unleashed in the wild, with no way to restrain his compliance with the confinement provisions, except his conscience.

Furthermore, this patient will not be calculated as such. This will change, even more, the numbers disseminated every day to us by the eminent experts of the Ministry of Health. A figure which, by the way, never reflected the truth of the epidemiological situation. And here we have one more reason to verify our apprehensions.

Besides, in recent days, we have had a valuable element which verifies that the figures published by the services of the Ministry of Health are very far from the truth. Since no less than 20% of those tested in free and public campaigns in the municipality of Tunis were diagnosed positive, although they usually did not show any indicative signs of the virus.

Accordingly, we will for a long time proceed to sail like this, blindly, not knowing how many of us are immune to the virus. And this, thanks to the insight and the exceptional competence of our Minister of Health and his collaborators.
