The criminal chamber specializing in cases of fighting terrorism at the Tunis court of first instance, sentenced this Wednesday, November 30, 2022, Mosaique FM correspondent in Kairouan, Khalifa Guesmi to one year in prison.
In reaction to this verdict, the president of the National Union of Journalists (SNJT), Mehdi Jelassi, denounced this sort of practice against Tunisian journalists and called on the supervisory authorities to respect professionals in the media sector.
“The verdict pronounced against reporter Khalifa Guesmi is unfair and very dangerous, and it testifies to a major drop in the field of freedoms … The journalist has the right not to reveal his sources of information, referring to the ethical code of journalism, ”he said.
In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, Jlassi said the government is attempting to adopt an approach to harass and intimidate all journalists.
It is recalled that Khalifa Guesmi was apprehended after the publication on Mosaique FM’s private radio site of an article he wrote on the dismantling of a “terrorist cell”.
