In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, head of the Tunisian Association of Parents and Students, Ridha Zahrouni expressed today that the educational issue entails a notable degree of responsibility and specialization. He highlighted the necessity for decision-makers to have a clear vision, especially in response to the national consultation aimed at reforming the education system. Specialized committees have been set up to study the outcomes of this consultation and present their findings to the President of the Republic.
Zahrouni underscored the significance of involving public opinion to understand different perspectives and ideas about the future school system that all Tunisians aspire to. Nevertheless, he underlined that certain aspects, such as preschool education, language placement, school management, human resources, and the pedagogical aspect, require specialized attention.
Referring to the remarks of the Minister of Education concerning the consultation process, Zahrouni interpreted the mention of the Supreme Council for Education consulting the outcomes of the consultation, developed by specialized committees, as indicative of preconceived ideas and specific choices. He saw this as proof of a lack of transparency on this matter.
The President of the Parents and Students Association underlined the significance of not giving the consultation undue importance, greater than the reforms that may result from it. He remarked that since the President of the Republic announced it in April 2023, the outcomes have not yet materialized. This delay is worrying, as it impacts students, with no actions or approved decisions taken to enhance the system’s performance and address negative indicators.
