Tunisia – Zied Heni affair: SNJT calls for demonstrations

The National Union of Tunisian Journalists confirmed in a press release, at the end of its meeting and its debate on the required measures to be taken about the extension of the arrest of journalist Zied Heni, for an extra 48 hours, that it is evidence of the continued deviation from legal rights and procedures against Tunisian journalists.

The Union called on all reporters and all free forces in Tunisia to partake in a protest in front of the court of first instance of Tunis, the day after tomorrow, Monday, to demand the freedom of the journalist, detained in “flagrant” conditions of breach legal procedures that govern the prosecution of journalists,” according to what is stated in the report.

Last Thursday evening, the public prosecutor at the court of first instance of Tunis decided to keep journalist Zied Heni in detention, after having questioned him for “insulting the Minister of Commerce”.
