The Tunisian Social Observatory has noted a widespread rise in violence across the country during the first three months of 2025. This period was characterised by a general context of impunity, especially in cases involving femicide, along with a notable increase in cyberviolence, discriminatory speech, racism, and defamation.
Public spaces such as streets, schools, administrative offices, health facilities, and workplaces were the most common settings for violent acts.
There was a decrease in collective violence, but an increase in gender-based violence.
84% of perpetrators were men.
Victims were:
47% men
40% women
The main types of violence recorded were:
Physical assault and intimidation
Theft
Sexual assault
Most incidents were criminal.
The most common crimes included:
Murder and death threats
Armed robbery (braquage)
Theft
Assaults on public employees

The Observatory cautions that violence is becoming more normalized and calls for stronger actions to address the causes and protect vulnerable groups.
