Tunisie-Tunisair: Notice to passengers for Canada

Tunisair announced that following decisions by the Canadian government on new compulsory requirements for travellers to Canada, the circumstances for accepting passengers to Montreal will be as follows:

All travellers aged 5 years or older to Canada will be asked to give a COVID-19 test result (PCR or RT-LAMP). The test result needs to be negative and performed within 72 hours of a traveller’s programmed flight to Canada, or positive and completed at least 14 days, but no more than 90 days before the flight date.

Authorization to board a flight to Canada granted to a traveller who tested positive for COVID-19 is given to travellers who have had COVID-19, who have recovered, but who could still get a positive result. The traveller who does not provide a test result, within the test period, unless they meet one of the rare exceptions, will be rejected boarding.
In addition to the pre-departure COVID-19 test, travellers are likewise expected to undergo a COVID-19 test upon arrival in Canada. While anticipating the results of the arrival tests, they will have to start their quarantine at a government-approved hotel at their own expense.

Evidence of prepaid reservation must be given upon arrival in Canada. It should be remarked that travellers could face penalties of up to $ 3,000 for arriving in Canada without a prepaid hotel reservation. Discretionary travel, including for tourism or recreation, is not allowed.
Also, All travellers are expected to adhere to the mandatory isolation period of 14 days from the date of entrance and must be capable to show how they intend to comply while in Canada. Specific information is requested.
All passengers need to wear a mask at all times from the commencement of the boarding process to outside the air terminal. Visit the Public Health Agency of Canada website for information on mask and exceptions.
Before boarding, you will require to have your health and temperature checked. This attestation consists of answering some simple questions, which you must answer truthfully.
Tunisair further clarified that providing fake or misleading responses can result in a fine of up to $ 5,000. A capable adult can respond to questions or give confirmation for the person who is not a capable adult. The temperature will be taken utilising a device that measures the temperature on the forehead, which will be expected to be exposed.

Tunisair has indicated that boarding to Canada will be rejected if a passenger:

  • Declines to answer questions about their state of health
  • Does not have a removable face cover or mask in his possession
  • Has symptoms (fever, cough or breathing problems) and does not have a certificate in his possession that his symptoms are not linked to Covid-19.
  • Refuses to comply with the instructions of the check-in and boarding agent, as well as a member of the crew member concerning additional sanitary measures (wearing a mask, etc.)
  • The company recalled that it is now obligatory for all air travellers to Canada to provide specific information in an appropriate 14-day mandatory quarantine plan before arriving in the country.

Breaking instructions upon arrival in Canada is a transgression under the Quarantine Act and could result in up to six months in prison or fines of up to 750. $ 000. To submit quarantine information, all travellers accessing Canada by air need to use ArriveCAN prior to boarding.

ArriveCAN is available as a mobile application that can be downloaded from Google Play or the Apple App Store and by logging in online. You must give your travel information and contact details, an appropriate quarantine plan, and self-assessment for symptoms of COVID-19 except if you are excluded from one of these requirements. Travellers should be prepared to present their ArriveCAN receipt upon arrival in Canada.

Note that a border services officer will confirm that travellers have submitted their information electronically.

Travellers who do not present the required information electronically before boarding their flight could be subjected to enforcement action, which can vary from a verbal warning to a fine.

For any additional information, Tunisair remarked that passengers can consult the following site: Canada.ca/ArriveCAN

Remember that anyone who feels ill will not be capable to board a flight because they pose a peril to others. In the event of symptoms (fever, cough, difficulty breathing) during the flight, the passenger must promptly inform the flight crew.

It is the passenger’s responsibility to assure that they are authorized to enter Canada. If they are denied entry, the passenger will be responsible for their own return. More information on the requirements can be found on the Government of Canada website.

For passengers in transit:

  • Travellers transiting through Canada, who do not physically pass a border entry point and who remain in the sterile zone do not need to be screened upon arrival.
  • If travellers pass a border entry point and enter Canada, they will be needed to be screened on arrival and spend up to three nights in a government-approved hotel while expecting test results. Once they receive the test results, and if their result is negative, they can proceed with their trip (this includes the option of taking public transportation, including another flight within Canada).
  • If a traveller is suddenly needed to enter Canada due to delays or unexpected cancellations of their connecting flight, they may be excluded from the on-arrival drug test and the requirement to self-quarantine at an approved hotel by the government, though he might be compelled to stay in a nearby hotel and quarantine himself until his next flight. Travellers requiring further guidance will be directed to public health
