Shouting protesters torched a Minneapolis police station Thursday that the department was obliged to flee as three days of violent protests spread to nearby St. Paul and furious demonstrations flared across the U.S over the death of George Floyd, a handcuffed black man who pleaded for air as a white police officer kneeled on his neck.
Police had set up a fence throughout the precinct earlier, nevertheless, it has since been pushed over and thousands of protesters are pressing around the precinct, climbing up the building and burning its exterior on fire.
Mr Floyd’s family have demanded that the four police officers implicated in his death face murder charges. Prosecutors have said they are still gathering evidence.
The incident has added to longstanding anger over the police killings of black Americans, including the recent case of Breonna Taylor in Kentucky.
There have also been demonstrations in other US cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, Phoenix and Memphis, the BBC reported.
