United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk warned on Tuesday that Israel’s planned operation in southern Gaza could result in “further atrocity crimes.” He repeated that 1.2 million Palestinian civilians are ‘forcibly cornered’ in the city of Rafah in the region.
Turk said at a briefing that he is “horrified” at the discovery of mass graves at the Nasser and al-Shifa hospitals in Gaza. He condemned the destruction of the two facilities by the Israel Defense Forces, as well as the recent strikes on Gaza that mostly killed women and children.
