UN says Lebanon’s heritage at risk amid Israeli strikes

Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis, from the Office of the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL), expressed on Friday deep concern over recent evacuation orders from Israel affecting the ancient cities of Baalbek and Tyre.

On X, Hennis said these orders have led tens of thousands to flee, worsening an already critical displacement crisis and stressing that Lebanon’s rich cultural heritage, particularly in these ancient Phoenician cities, risks becoming “yet another casualty” in the escalating conflict.
