UNHCR says over 9.1 million people left Ukraine

The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) said on Wednesday that nearly 9.14 million people crossed the border from Ukraine since Russia began its military offensive on January 24.

The UNHCR has declared the crisis in Ukraine a level 3 emergency, the highest level in the categorization, noting the military conflict has caused civilian casualties and destroyed infrastructure.

More than 5.6 million individual refugees were recorded leaving Ukraine since the start of the invasion, with over 7.1 million people estimated to have been internally displaced throughout the war-torn country.
