The United States Treasury Department announced on Thursday in a statement that it is imposing sanctions on over one dozen entities, individuals and vessels over facilitating the sale of Iranian drones “for Iran’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL), which itself is involved in supporting Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Russia’s war in Ukraine.”
The Treasury stressed that Sahara Thunder is the company that had a key role in Tehran’s development, production and sale of thousands of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), claiming that those UAVs were used by the Russian military against the Ukrainian infrastructure and civilians.
“Iran’s Ministry of Defense continues to destabilize the region and world with its support to Russia’s war in Ukraine, unprecedented attack on Israel, and proliferation of UAVs and other dangerous military hardware to terrorist proxies,” Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson commented.
