US sanctions two North Korea-linked companies

United States Treasury Department declared sanctions against two entities connected to North Korea on Wednesday. Russian construction company Mokran LLC, and Korea Cholsan General Trading Corporation, a North Korean firm operating in Russia, have even attacked by Washington of “exportation of forced labour” from the Asian country, with one of their aims being generating “revenue for the Government of North Korea or Workers’ Party of Korea.”

Moreover, Korea Rungrado General Trading Corporation, Korea General Corporation for External Construction, and Yanbian Silverstar Network Technology Co. Ltd. have been added to the US department’s Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Person List (SDN List) due to the corresponding alleged wrongdoing by sending North Korean workers to Russia and China.

“North Korea has a long history of exploiting its citizens by sending them to distant countries to work in gruelling conditions in order to financially support Pyongyang and its weapons programs. Those countries still hosting North Korean workers must send these workers home,” US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement.
