Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev (pictured), who won his second five-year term last month, has taken office on Saturday, TASS reported citing sources with the nation’s upper house of parliament.
In Uzbekistan’s general election held in October, Mirziyoyev received 80.1% of the total vote, according to the country’s Central Election Commission, securing a sweeping victory over his four opponents who failed to show up for televised debates and have instead sent proxies.
The inauguration ceremony is taking place in a large conference room in the new Senate building that was completed on Friday.
