The Vatican has announced that the body of Pope Francis will be placed in the coffin this evening, Monday, April 21, at 8:00 PM (Vatican time), in the chapel of his home at the Casa Santa Marta within the Vatican, where he had lived since his election as Supreme Pontiff.
The official statement issued by the Vatican said:
“This evening, Monday, April 21, at exactly 8:00 PM (6:00 PM GMT), His Eminence Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo and President of the College of Cardinals, will preside over the rite of verification of death and the placing of the body inside the coffin.”
This procedure is part of the official funeral rites that precede the funeral ceremony, which is anticipated to be attended by a large number of religious leaders and dignitaries from around the world.
