Volcano erupts in southwestern Iceland

A volcano erupted on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwestern Iceland on Thursday, the country’s meteorological office said. The third eruption in Iceland in two months was preceded by “intense seismic activity.”

The office said the lava flow is less intense than the one that followed an eruption on December 18, 2023, which prompted the evacuation of the town of Grindavik
