War in G-a-z-a: Tunisia describes opinion rendered by ICJ as historic

Tunisia welcomes the historic opinion, issued by the International Court of Justice on July 19, 2024 upon request from the United Nations’ General Assembly, on the legal consequences arising from the zionist occupation’s policies and practices in the occupied Palestinian territories which affirmed the illegitimacy of the continued presence of the occupying power in the Palestinian territories and the necessity of halting new settlement activities and the immediate evacuation of settlements, reads a press release by the Foreign Ministry.
Tunisia considers that this opinion issued by the highest international judicial body highlights the gravity of the oppressive zionist entity’s violations of international law and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and places the international community before a test of its commitment to upholding the principle of the supremacy of international law and applying its rules to all without exception and without selectivity or double standards.
In this regard , Tunisia holds all United Nations member states legally and morally responsible for adhering to the implementation of the court’s decision by not recognizing the legitimacy of the occupation and not providing any support for its continuation, in line with the outcomes of the court’s advisory opinion.
Tunisia also calls on the UN and its bodies, especially the Security Council, to assume their roles in maintaining international peace and security by compelling the occupying zionist entity to commit to halting occupation and settlement activities in all Palestinian territories and the genocide crimes it perpetrates against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
Besides, Tunisia reaffirms its steadfast and unconditional support for the Palestinian people’s inalienable and imprescriptible rights, on top of which the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign state on all the Palestinian territories with Al Qods Al Charif as its capital.
