Western interventions brought tragedy to M. East – Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday that interventions by Western countries in the Middle East “brought nothing but tragedy.”

Speaking virtually at a plenary session of VTB Capital Investment Forum ‘Russia Calling!’ 2021, Putin said that during the Arab Spring, which started in 2010, external parties tried to “exploit domestic difficulties” and stressed a similar situation unfolded in Afghanistan.

The Russian president stated that some colleagues, which he refused to name, admitted to him they “made a mistake” with these interventions but blasted them for continuing to pursue similar actions in other regions in the Middle East and Africa after acknowledging it was a mistake.
