WHO: Booster jabs in rich countries ‘scandal’

Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has labeled the widespread administration of booster COVID vaccine doses in the developed world as a “scandal that must stop now.”

“It makes no sense to give boosters to healthy adults, or to vaccinate children, when health workers, older people and other high-risk groups around the world are still waiting for their first dose,” the WHO chief said in a media briefing.

Ghebreyesus also commented on the surge in cases in Europe, stating that “no country can simply vaccinate its way out of the pandemic. It’s not vaccines or, it’s vaccines and,” referring to the need for continued vigilance and preventative measures.
