World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated on Monday that the coronavirus situation in India is “beyond heartbreaking.”
Speaking at a media briefing, Tedros also stated that despite regional decreases in COVID-19 cases, globally pandemic levels continue to intensify, with cases and deaths increasing for ninth and sixth straight weeks respectively, adding that “many countries are still experiencing intense COVID transmissions.” The WHO panel characterized the situations in India and the world as “fragile,” and that any positive developments could easily be reversed if countries aren’t careful.
