The World Health Organization (WHO) affirmed it kept a “close contact” with the authorities from the United Kingdom over the new variant of coronavirus noted in that country.
“They’ll continue to share info & results of their analysis & ongoing studies,” the WHO tweeted. “We’ll update member states & public as we learn more about the characteristics of this virus variant & any implications.”
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier stated the new variant could be “up to 70% more transmissible” than the known strain.
