WHO: Omicron infecting vaccinated people

The World Health Organization confirmed on Monday that the newly registered Omicron coronavirus variant can infect people fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

“There is now consistent evidence that Omicron is spreading significantly faster than the Delta variant, and it is more likely people vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 could be infected or reinfected,” Director-General Tedros Adhanom told reporters in Geneva.

However, the WHO believes that vaccines still provide protection against the coronavirus and won’t become “completely ineffective.”
