World First: Using Drones and Artificial Intelligence to Observe the Ramadan Crescent

The Emirates Fatwa Council investigated the crescent moon of Ramadan this year, using “drones” equipped with artificial intelligence technologies.

The Council confirmed that this is the first time in the world that the crescent moon has been observed using drones equipped with artificial intelligence technologies.

It added that this inquiry is carried out in addition to the naked eye observation certificates, and astronomical observatories spread throughout the country, which employ the best state-of-the-art devices and machines, ensure the accuracy of the observation of the crescent, and provide confirmed scientific results and data in the operations of observing the crescent, in coordination and cooperation with national institutions, specialized centres and astronomical observatories.
