The global COVID-19 vaccination rate won’t reach the target set by the World Health Organization earlier this year, with about half of the countries across the world failing to meet the expected 40%.
Health institutions worldwide distributed over 8.6 billion vaccine doses, more than the planet’s total population, however, the majority of the vaccines were administered in higher-income states that reached individual agreements with vaccine manufacturers.
On the other hand, many developing countries in Africa and elsewhere entirely relied on the COVAX initiative to provide vaccines to their populations, which delivered only 722 million doses to countries in need to date, according to the Welt magazine.
