The phrase ‘World War 3’ started trending after the high-profile killing of the Iranian leader’s second in command Qassem Suleimani in a US airstrike.
The “WWIII” hashtag promptly rose near the top of global Twitter trends with more than 200,000 tweets and was followed by the phrase ‘World War 3′ – which also trended.
Many of those tweeting about the airstrike used memes to draw attention to the situation, Searches for ‘World War 3’ also spiked on Google within hours of the airstrike in Iraq overnight, reported metro.co.uk.
Google Trends recorded ‘Iran’ as the second most searched term in the United States, with more than 500,000 searches for the topic.
