Xi warns Biden not to play with fire on Taiwan

Chinese President Xi Jinping told United States President Joe Biden it is crucial for both parties to abide by the one-China principle and implement the three Sino-U.S. joint communique concerning the Taiwan question, cautioning his counterpart that ” those playing with fire will get burned.”

During a two-hour-long conversation, Xi stressed that the country strongly opposes “Taiwan Independence” and foreign meddling in the country’s sovereignty. According to Chinese state media, the 46th president of the US stated that the country “hopes to maintain dialogue” through mutual understanding, emphasizing that Washington does not support Taiwan’s “independence.”

The two leaders also examined the Ukraine crisis, with Xi reiterating China’s principled stance on the issue. According to the Chinese president, viewing China as a “strategic competitor” and referring to it as a “strategic rival” is a miscalculation of US-China relations that may mislead the people of both countries as well as the international community.
