Zelensky: Melitopol mayor must be released immediately

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Western leaders in France and Germany on Saturday regarding the mayor of Melitopol, who allegedly was kidnapped by the Russian army.

“We expect world leaders to show us how they can influence the situation,” said Zelensky in his last message. “During the night and today, we are talking to our partners about the situation with our mayor. Our demand is clear: he must be released immediately.”

He mentioned that he talked to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron. Besides, he recalled that 2,000 Ukrainians demonstrated on Saturday in Melitopol against the Russian military operation, demanding the mayor’s release.
