At least nineteen people died in a plane crash in Tanzania on Sunday, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa revealed.
The aircraft crashed into Lake Victoria while attempting to land at an airport in the nearby city of Bukoba. Local authorities previously said 26 were safely pulled out of the wreckage and taken to nearby hospitals.
“We have managed to save quite a number of people,” local police commander William Mwampaghale had said, noting that the aircraft “encountered problems and bad weather” before plunging into water.
