20 killed in gunfight northern Mexico

Conflicts sparked by a speculated gunfight in a northern Mexican town killed 20 people this weekend, authorities announced, .

Four local police officers, two innocent civilians and 13 presumed cartel members were amongst the dead Saturday, Gov. Miguel Angel Riquelme Solis said. Authorities had originally stated 14 people were dead.

The brutal attack began at around noon on Saturday, the eve of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s first anniversary in office. Surveys reveal Mexicans view the critical failure to curb violence as the greatest weakness of the generally popular leftist leader.
