5.9 earthquake hits close to Russia’s Kamchatka

A 5.9-magnitude earthquake was registered by a local geological organization in Kamchatka, in Russia’s far east, Sputnik reported on Wednesday.

According to the organization, the epicenter was located 225 kilometers from Severo-Kurilsk, the administrative center of the Sakhalin Oblast om the northern part of the Kuril Islands.

United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded that the earthquake was of a magnitude of 5.0 and that it struck 228 kilometers from Severo-Kurilsk.
