6.3-magnitude earthquake hits New Ireland region

A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake took place in the region of Papua New Guinea’s island of New Ireland, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre reported on Thursday.

The epicenter of the quake was located at a depth of 15 kilometers, around 190 kilometers southeast of Papua New Guinea’s town of Kokopo and 830 kilometers northwest of Solomon Islands’ capital city of Honiara.
