Tunisia: SNJT files a complaint against the governor of Ben Arous

A complaint against the governor of Ben Arous will be lodged by the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT). In a press release issued yesterday, Saturday, January 29, 2022, the SNJT said the complaint likewise involves “all those who target reporters and stop access to information”.

Condemning attempts to domesticate the media, the SNJT held the Presidency of the Republic and the Presidency of the Government “responsibility for the integrity of journalists who are victims of intimidation and accusations of treason on the part of leaders of the state”.

In this sense, it called on the presidency of the government to “assume its accountability in respecting the nature of journalistic work, not to intrude in the work of journalists and to ensure their right to access information likely to enlighten public opinion “.

Separately, the union alerted of “the dangerous repeat of the discourse of intimidation and incitement against journalists by state officials”.
