Tunisia – Main points of declaration of Tunis consultative summit between Tunisia, Algeria and Libya

The first consultative meeting, which brought together the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Younes Menfi, concluded today, Monday, in Tunisia.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, read the “Declaration of the consultative summit in Tunis between Tunisia, Algeria and Libya”, in a video posted on the page of the presidency of the Tunisian Republic.

The communiqué specifies in particular that the leaders of these countries agreed to “establish joint task forces responsible for coordinating efforts sought at protecting the security of common borders against the jeopardies and consequences of irregular migration and other manifestations of crime organized according to a participatory approach. »

It was furthermore agreed to “unify positions and discourse concerning the different countries impacted by irregular migration in the northern Mediterranean and in sub-Saharan countries”.

It was agreed to “form a joint working group to draft mechanisms to establish significant joint projects and investments in priority areas and sectors, such as grain and fodder production, water desalination sea and other projects”.

The heads of the three countries agreed to speed up the implementation of the electricity interconnection project between Tunisia, Libya and Algeria, to develop cooperation, overcome the difficulties hampering the movement of goods, accelerate the procedures for the movement of people and establish free trade zones between them.

At the end of the meeting, it was decided to “form contact points” to observe the implementation of what was agreed by the leaders of these countries with a view to holding the next consultative meeting.

Algerian President Tebboune and Libyan President Menfi arrived earlier Monday in Tunisia, in response to an invitation from the president of the republic, Kais Saied, who declared on March 2, 2024, during his participation in Algeria in the seventh summit gas exporters, that a Tunisian-Algerian-Libyan tripartite meeting would be organized in Tunisia.
