AFCON 2024: Cape Verde beats Mauritania to find itself in 1/4 (video)

In a position to write history, Cape Verde and Mauritania clashed at the Félix Houphouët-Boignystadium in Abidjan (29,000 seats) this Monday early in the evening. This incredible display, between two selections which created a surprise, finished in a narrow win for Cape Verde (1-0). Goal by Ryan Mendes from the penalty spot (88′).

Dreaming of writing the most stunning lines of Cape Verdean football on Ivorian soil, the Blue Sharks are indeed succeeding perfectly in this AFCON. With 8 goals scored in 4 matches, they are prospering offensively since they are still undefeated since the start of the competition (3 wins, 1 draw).

Having created a sensation by defeating the Fennecs to achieve the first success in their history at the AFCON (1-0), the Mourabitounes managed to qualify among the best thirds and reach the round of 16, but they failed to achieve new exploits and showed themselves to be inexperienced at this stage of the competition.
