After remarking on his new list of Fennecs who will partake in the Ivorian AFCON, Algerian coach Djamel Belmadi talked in this Sunday’s press conference about the big favourites for the tournament.
While he excluded his team from the race, Belmadi affirmed his short list of winners, which is traditional: “The AFCON favourites are often the same, we know them: Egypt, Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia, Nigeria, Ivory Coast – for me a big favourite, playing at home. No one can be certain about the future winner.”
Certainly, Algeria is an outsider of the tournament: “We did not qualify for the World Cup, we came out in the first round of the last Afcon and you have repeated it to me enough, so, de facto, we are not favourites”.
Finally, he remains motivated to go to the land of Elephants as much as possible: “Ambitions for the AFCON? That will never change: go as far as possible, go and win! There are several of us who want the same thing, it will be a tough fight.”
