AFCON 2024 – Group C: Senegal and Cameroon in 8th round (video)

The 3rd and final day of Group C gave us its ruling in the early evening of Tuesday, January 23. It will be around Senegal and Cameroon (with Guinea as best 3rd) to be part of the round of 16 of this 34th Ivorian edition.

Already qualified, the Senegalese Terenga Lions were able to guarantee their leadership position, at the Charles-Konan-Banny Stadium (20,000 seats) located in the town of Yamoussoukro, by defeating (2-0) the Guinean national Syli, for its part in search of a point to move away from the threat of Cameroon.

On the occasion of this derby against Guinea, coach Aliou Cissé rotated his squad to preserve his critical players and substitute them with elements who have had little or no sights since the start of the tournament to prove their value, with a view to the knockout phase.

As for the Cameroonian Indomitable Lions who discovered themselves under pressure, they performed the essential with an emergency victory (3-2) to avoid early elimination from the group stage, against the Gambians, who were obliged to win their executioner from the previous AFCON to hope to qualify. Final result: Cameroon is the winner and qualifies despite 11 minutes of added time where Gambia equalized at 3-3, but the goal will be withdrawn.

In the round of 16, we will have a shock of shocks: Nigeria – Cameroon (Saturday at 9:00 p.m. HT) and a summit of the Guineans: Guinea – Equatorial Guinea (Sunday at 6:00 p.m. HT)… What is this Ivorian AFCON?
