Algeria-Abdelmajid Tebboune announces early legislative elections

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has announced that Algeria will hold early parliamentary elections following a referendum on a new constitution in early November.

Tebboune stressed that the constitution, which will be submitted to a popular referendum, “gives powers to the elected representative chosen by the people”, stressing that “if the people want change, this is the time so that we do not stay in the ambiguity that previously prevailed ”.

“We hope to reach the elected institutions before the end of the year, but the circumstances must be taken into account, especially from a health point of view,” he said.

Tebboune stressed that only the people decide their fate, stressing the need to enshrine transparency from the bottom up, explaining that everyone is interested in accountability.
