Speaking to Tunisie Numéerique,Ahmed Amiri, head of the National Chamber of Butchers, noted that the chamber had proactively submitted issues and potential solutions concerning the red meat sector in Tunisia and its organization. Despite this initiative and numerous meetings with the Ministries of Trade and Agriculture, their proposals have yet to receive a response.
Amiri underscored the factors contributing to the high prices of red meat, which currently vary between 40 and 45 dinars per kilogram. These prices have led to a decline in consumer demand. He confirmed the existence of numerous imbalances in the red meat sector, associated with a lack of support to address these issues.
Amiri also noted that a meeting was held in December with various involved parties, but no decisions have been made to date, despite the upcoming month of Ramadan and the sector’s extremely low production numbers. Furthermore, he revealed that the Chamber had appealed to the President of the Republic regarding the various challenges facing the sector, underscoring the urgency and importance of addressing these issues promptly.
