At least 22 people have died and over 550 have been injured as a result of wildfires across Chile, according to Interior Minister Carolina Toha. The death toll is likely to rise as a number of people are reported as missing.
Over 250 fires have been recorded with 80 “out of control,” according to the government. The fires have so far destroyed around 45,000 hectares of forests. Chile has received offers of assistance from other South American countries, including Brazil and Argentina, as well as Mexico and Spain.
