Austin sent to critical care unit

United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin was sent to the “critical care unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for supportive care and close monitoring,” as announced by the Pentagon in a statement released late Sunday (ET time). Also, he delegated his responsibilities and tasks to Kathleen Hicks, the Deputy Secretary of Defense.

Pentagon’s update comes hours after it was announced that Austin was hospitalized for bladder issues.

“At this time, it is not clear how long Secretary Austin will remain hospitalized. The current bladder issue is not expected to change his anticipated full recovery. His cancer prognosis remains excellent,” the Pentagon added.
