A huge blaze engulfed the port in the Tuskish city of Iskenderun after the harbour operations ceased due to the deadly earthquake that struck the country and the neighbouring Syria continues to burn for a second day, the local media reported on Tuesday.
As per the reports, the black pillar of smoke rising from the shipping containers can still be seen as the emergency crews continue to battle the fire. Turkey’s Transport Ministry confirmed that it was “determined that docks collapsed at Iskenderun port,” while national state energy company Botas suspended natural gas flow to affected provinces to prevent further incidents but has not yet detected any damage to oil pipelines in the region.
